Utilities owned by investors in the state of Ohio must meet specified energy reduction targets. AEP Ohio is working toward goals created by the state to reduce electricity consumption by 22% at the end of 2025.
Many cities and states are establishing similar initiatives. 30,000 refrigerators were recycled by residents in Ithaca, NY as the result of a partnership between New York State Electric and Gas Corporation and Rochester Gas & Electric. In July 2013, Vermont residents were encouraged to drop off used refrigerators as part of a statewide program to promote efficiency.
