- Ben Weitsman & Sons announced that it was awarded a $200,00 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) for a rail project in the Keystone state.
- The project entails removing a rail spur and then installing new ties, rail, and ballast in order to facilitate transportation operations at the firm’s new scrap metal facility in New Castle, PA.
- The Owego, NY-based scrap company also plans to construct an auto shredder on the site.

Ben Weitsman & Sons and its sister company, Upstate Shredding, generates sales of around a quarter billion dollars annually, according to the company. The combined firms operate 18 locations across New York and Pennsylvania and processes more than one million tons of ferrous and 250 million pounds of non-ferrous materials every year.
In January, Adam Weitsman, the owner of Upstate Shredding-Ben Weitsman, said that the company plans to expand its reach “throughout the Northeast.”
