Dive Brief:
- The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, Inc. (ISRI) launched a new initiative called “Circle of Safety Excellence.”
- The program is a member-driven platform that promotes safety within the industry through the pooling of safety data from companies.
- Participating companies will share injury stats and related information that will be used to establish benchmarks and improve safety within the industry. The goal is to learn from other companies within the ISRI network.
Dive Insight:
ISRI represents over 1,600 companies in the recycling industry. The organization offers members training in compliance, safety, education, and advocacy while promoting public awareness on the role of recycling in the U.S.
Each company that is accepted into “the Circle” must have a safety management program in place at all facilities, including certain rules defined by OSHA. They must also share annual injury data, participate in a group benchmarking program, and be willing to reach out to others in the industry to expand safety practices.
