Dive Brief:
- Pepsi Bottling Ventures (PBV) has announced an agreement with Recleim to provide recycling services for the former company, the largest privately-held Pepsi bottler in North America.
- Recleim will dispose of PBV's used vending machines, fountain drink equipment, glass doors, and various other components used by the soft drink bottler.
- According to Recleim, the recycler uses exclusively-licensed advanced recycling technology to recover up to 95% of PBV equipment by weight.
Dive Insight:
PBV said it was motivated to establish an agreement with Recleim because the bottler is devoted to high standards of recycling for its equipment. Furthermore, the deal allows PBV to maximize the materials recovered in the process. The used equipment will be processed at Recleim’s 110,000 square-foot recycling center in Graniteville, SC.
PepsiCo is working toward a 2020 goal that all future point-of-sale equipment, including coolers, vending machines, and soft-drink dispensers, will be hydroflourocarbon-free.
In September, Recleim joined forces with a group of air conditioning contractors in South Carolina in which the recycler will process the old units according to industry standards. This particular collaboration cuts out the contractor since Recleim disassembles the equipment itself, allowing for competitive pricing for the air conditioning systems.
