Dive Insight:
Beginning in 2013, a substantial number of recycling centers closed in the San Francisco area, prompting officials to consider various options for the community to discard their recyclables.
One concept under consideration was a mobile recycling unit. The idea was to create a mobile recycling center, in essence bringing the facility to the community via a pop-up recycling unit. The mobile facilities would travel to a different neighborhood on a scheduled basis, allowing people to conveniently discard of recycling at nearby locations.
