Norfolk, VA - 11/15/2017 – Happy America Recycles Day 2017! In celebration of the 20th annual America Recycles Day Recycling Perks, the recycling incentive and strategic outreach company, involved adults and kids throughout the country in a fun and informative recycling game. In this game adults were pitted up against kids to test their knowledge of recycling contaminants.
America Recycles Day was created in 1997 to encourage Americans to commit to recycling. For Recycling Perks, which has been providing education and incentives to many cities since 2010, this day is another opportunity to speak with residents about the importance of recycling. Recycling Perks has two goals: to get more people to recycle, and to involve the community in making their city greener. Their latest national campaign, the America Recycles Day Anti-Contamination Game, was a mix of both these goals: it involved the community, and encouraged more people to recycle by helping them to be more confident in their recycling abilities.
Many residents gathered in the different service areas the company serves. SPOILER ALERT: Residents were asked a trick question about plastic bags that threw many of them off. Plastic bags CAN be recycled at your local grocery store, but they CAN’T be recycled in your curbside cart. This confusion was a perfect example of why Recycling Perks focuses on continued recycling education in the community. Overall the campaign was very successful in bolstering the confidence of the residents that participated, and the video will help educate more people digitally.
