Dive Brief:
- Plastics from wood pellets, maple sugar tubing, hay bales and greenhouse covers will now be able to be recycled through a $60,960 state grant awarded to the Franklin Solid Waste Management District.
- The recycling project will consist of sheds being built for transfer stations in towns where recyclable materials can be discarded by haulers. Farmers can bring agricultural plastic to one of the designated drop-off collection areas.
- The grant will also pay for a refurbished compactor.

It is estimated that 22 tons of bale wrap is produced annually. The $60,960 grant is one of seven Community Innovation Grants awarded in Franklin County. The total amount awarded is $720,000, part of a $4 million program to support regional efforts.
