Dive Brief:
- Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport began recycling runways that are no longer servicing planes.
- The tarmac will be repurposed, put to use in the construction of a new runway project.
- The new runway will be 7,000 feet long and 150 feet wide when construction is finished in September of 2014.
Dive Insight:
The debris from the former runway has filled 1,185 truckloads. 7 million cubic feet of fill are needed for the project.
