• An amendment to the state budget was adopted by the Arkansas House of Representatives. It will provide immediate funding for the clean-up and closure of the Nabors landfill in Baxter County. It is expected to be passed in the Senate.
• The district has put almost $1 million into developing an engineering plan that would reduce the volume of waste that is overflowing at the site.
• The landfill stopped accepting trash in October of 2012. It defaulted on its $12 million bond debt and ceased providing waste collection services within the community.
