Dive Brief:
- Windy conditions this weekend led to an unusual scene at the Menomonee Falls landfill in Wisconsin. Spectators stopped for a chance to view thousands of plastic bags scattered on the site and at nearby properties.
- Waste Management crews were out reigning in the bags, and will continue with the clean-up until all of the bags are collected. Employees used litter sticks and grabbers to remove the bags from trees and fences.
- Due to the direction the wind was blowing, homes in the area were not caught in the bags path.
Dive Insight:
One of the crew members helping with the clean-up said that a similar occurrence had happened earlier in the winter, but in general, it is a rare event.
