Dive Brief:
- Caesars Entertainment has announced a partnership with sustainability management company Ecova, which will help Caesars reach its CodeGreen goal of reducing waste generation by 50% by 2020.
- Caesars prides itself on being a "leader in environmental sustainability in the gaming entertainment industry," and had increased annual waste diversion by 10% in both 2013 and 2014. However, Ecova will help Caesars better understand its waste streams and strategies in order to continue increasing diversion.
- Ecova plans to provide Caesars with solutions for waste bill processing and analysis, waste service management, waste procurement, waste optimization, and zero waste.
Dive Insight:
Entertainment properties, such as the ones operated by Caesars, attract hundreds of thousands of people each week — resulting in enormous quantities of waste produced at each site.
"Caesars Entertainment properties are unique in that we have casino space, hotel rooms, restaurants, shopping outlets and event arenas, all under one roof," said Jeffrey Ruskowitz, manager of engineering and sustainable operations at Caesars Entertainment. "Our facilities require a partner that is proficient in understanding the challenges faced by all these business types – but rolled into one. Ecova has the breadth and depth of experience to partner with in order to help us be successful in our waste diversion initiatives."
Caesar's ultimate goal with Ecova is to reach a zero waste initiative. Although this may be a far reach for the entertainment company, Caesars is on the right track in leading the way for fellow casinos, hotels, and restaurants to be more conscious of their environmental footprints.
