- Casella Waste Systems, Inc. received a permit from the state of Maine that will allow the solid waste, recycling and resource management services firm to accept in-state municipal solid waste at its Juniper Ridge landfill.
- The landfill, located in Old Town, Maine, received a permit from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection that will allow Casella to dispose of 81,800 tons of solid waste annually. The permit is valid until March 31, 2016.
- Casella has been operating the 780-acre landfill since February 5, 2004. It has a 30-year operating and services agreement with the state.
Dive Insight:
According to the press release, Casella is following the conditions cited in the permit, but has filed an appeal to seek a higher annual disposal limit than was granted. Casella also appealed the duration granted for its operations, and is requesting an extension of the timeframe outlined in the permit.
