Dive Brief:

• George Mason University, in Fairfax, Virginia,  performed an experiment in recycling, holding its preliminary "Green Game" last weekend.
• The Green Patriots student sustainability group's project was to recycle the most amount of trash it could during the men's basketball game against George Washington. 
• The group not only encouraged fans to recycle their own waste, but to find and dispose of recyclables throughout the sports facility after the game ended. 65 volunteers also spent hours sorting the materials.

Dive Insight:

Of the 3,000 pounds of waste collected at the event, 1,500 pounds were recycled. A usual game has a rate of .014 pounds  of recycling per person. The "Green Game" event yielded a recycling rate of .07 pounds per person, for an increase of 400%.
