The landfill was closed after workers found an "unexploded ordnance" on the site on Monday; police were alerted and began monitoring and securing the site, while the military disposal unit made their way to the landfill to assess the situation.

Military personnel from the explosive ordnance unit arrived on the scene and detonated the object, and the landfill was given the "all-clear" before the site was re-opened to the public.

On January 13, the potentially dangerous find prompted authorities to immediately close the landfill until further notice. The landfill resumed regular operations just a day later on January 14, 2014.
