Clean-up and repair costs for an Iowa City landfill fire that started on Saturday are now projected tobe between $4-6 million. City officials have already submitted insurance claims but warn that costs could continue to increase.
The cause of the 7.5 acre landfill fire is unknown but arson is not suspected. The fire, however, remains active and continues to burn.
“Our best option today is to let it burn,” Iowa City's fire chief said Tuesday.
It is expected that the fire will continue to burn through two to five feed of old tire lining over the next few days.
