- A $17M expansion at the Franklin County Regional Landfill in Malone, New York, will go out to bid on March 12. The waste authority is looking for bids to lease unused disposal space.
- The funds collected will be held in a reserve account to pay for the construction of additional trash cells. The proposal includes building a 1 million gallon leachate collection system and a maintenance facility.
- The project has been in the works for 11 years. Three new 7.5 acre cells are expected to hold around 80,000 tons of waste annually. It is anticipated that the expansion will extend the life of the site for an additional 30 years.

The waste authority has adopted a federal guideline for the first time that will allow it to enter into a long-term contract. In the past, agreements were limited to 30 days.
