A massive recycling centre fire filled the U.K. capital’s sky with smoke Sunday as the ceremony to close the Olympic Games was about to get underway.
More than 200 firefighters and 40 engines tackled the August 12 blaze, which broke out around 1:15pm at Hunt’s Waste recycling centre on Chequers Lane, about 11 km east of the Olympic Park in Dagenham.
Fire officials said the recycling facility fire was one of the biggest the city has seen in several years.
