Dive Brief:
- Rumpke has announced that all of the mercury that was mistakenly delivered to its landfill in Colerain Township, Ohio, has been removed.
- Over 100 pounds of the heavy metal was misplaced by the Cincinnati Metropolitan Sewer District, with some of it turning up at the Rumpke site.
- Excavators dug a pit measuring 50 by 25 feet and 25 feet deep in order to remove all of the mercury.
Dive Insight:
Clean-up of the site began in mid-January. According to officials, the mercury removal will cost over $1 million.
