From the article:
The township’s new garbage truck is not a perfect fit for the township, literally.
The new truck, has a single “articulated arm” that would need only one person to work the vehicle. But when it arrived at the Department of Public Works (DPW) garage on North Jefferson Road last Friday, officials discovered the horrible truth: the truck is too big to fit inside the garage.
“It’s about a foot and a half too tall,” Mayor Ronald Francioli said Monday. “But it’s an inconvenience, not a catastrophe.”
Last November the Township Committee authorized the $375,000 purchase of a new-fangled garbage truck committee members said would revolutionize garbage pickup in the township.
The truck is not too tall for the physical structure of the garage opening but it is too tall for the garage door itself, which runs on rails lower than the garage roof to open and close.
“We’ll have to reset the garage door assembly to get it to fit,” the mayor said.
Former Township Committeewoman Judi Iradi said the repair could cost anywhere from $50,000 to $75,000.
“Oh for heaven’s sake where does she come up with that figure?” Francioli asked. “We haven’t even thought about the price. I only found out about it yesterday.”
