Dive Brief:

• The New Mexico Department of Corrections has started a new sustainability program.
• As part of this new project, discarded food scraps will be converted into fertilizer using worms. Inmates will also be trained to transform wooden pallets into toys, while donated towels will become stuffed animals.  
• Inmates will also be trained to make biodiesel, which will be sold to other state agencies.

The sustainability program is just one of many new inmate training programs aimed at giving those in prison some different options in job education.
