Dive Brief:
-
Republic Services has been granted approval by the DEP to build a solid waste transfer station at its Fall River Industrial Park landfill site in Massachusetts.
-
The transfer station will handle up to 1,000 tons of municipal solid waste daily.
-
After many expansion efforts, the landfill is expected to close later this year, according to a plan prepared by Allied Waste, which was approved by the DEP.
Dive Insight:
The facility will be constructed on 1.9 acres of land, with the station slated to be 20,900 square feet. The city is losing the revenue created from the site, and currently has no plans regarding hauling solutions for the city after the landfill is shuttered.
