Scandanavia collects highest volume of e-waste in Europe

Dive Brief:

  • The WEEE Forum, a European association of electrical and electronic waste recovery systems, says that Scandinavia collected the highest volume of e-waste in Europe in 2012.
  • According to Recycling International, WEEE notes that European electronic waste markets decreased overall as collections dropped 3.4% from 2011 to 2012. 
  • Recycling International reported that cooling equipment comprised 44% of the total amount of devices collected. Computer screens and TVs represented 25% of the total. 

Dive Insight:

The reduction of electronic waste collected can be attributed to streamlined design of components that weigh less than previous models.
