Sims sells UT recycling assets to Western Metals

Dive Brief:

  • According to Recycling Today, Sims Metal Management's Utah recycling assets and operations were acquired by Sandy, UT-based Western Metals Recycling.
  • The sale includes a feeder yard in Orem and shredder facility in Salt Lake City, UT, reports Recycling Today.
  • Western Metals Recycling's parent company is David J. Joseph Co., a subsidiary of Nucor Corp. 

Dive Insight:

Sims recently opened a massive MRF in Brooklyn on May 15, 2014, where up to 1,000 tons of recyclables can be processed on a daily basis. The facility will handle all of the curbside recycling in NYC.
