Smithtown, New York board members voted unanimously to accept a proposal for managing improvements from L.K. McLean Associates PC for the St. James landfill as part of a $1 million rehabilitation project.

Updates will include engineering, design and construction management at the site as well as acquiring scales, a grinding machine and a new building to house those operating the scales.

The plans are expected to transform the site into a state-of-the-art facility within the next nine months.
