• Smithtown, New York board members voted unanimously to accept a proposal for managing improvements from L.K. McLean Associates PC for the St. James landfill as part of a $1 million rehabilitation project.

• Updates will include engineering, design and construction management at the site as well as acquiring scales, a grinding machine and a new building to house those operating the scales.

• The plans are expected to transform the site into a state-of-the-art facility within the next nine months.

The project received approval from the board in its 2014 capital budget in order to comply with the state Department of Environmental Conservation regulations. The renovations by the firm will cost an estimated $99,350.
