From the article:
After more than a year of deliberation, the U.S. EPA has issued interim performance requirements for verification of Class 8 line-haul truck retreads as low-rolling-resistance tires.
Dated June 11, the new requirements represent an opportunity retreaders have long desired: to get their products certified as fuel-saving equipment under the EPA's SmartWay Transport Partnership program.
SmartWay is a voluntary EPA program through which truck fleets can try to reduce their fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The program verifies various types of truck equipment for their fuel-conserving and emissions-reducing properties. It has verified new truck tires for low rolling resistance since 2007.
