From the article:
It makes good sense for Waste Management to help train the next generation of heavy-duty mechanics at Vancouver Island University.
That's the opinion of Glen Tulloch, operations manager for WM's Nanaimo division.
Qualified heavy-duty mechanics are a scarce commodity and ensuring a trained workforce is coming in the future means WM won't have to look far to find them. In the last four years, the company has donated six trucks to VIU's heavy-duty/commercial transport mechanics program, including a recent donation of two front-end load waste garbage trucks.
The trucks, which have been used collecting waste, are retired from active duty but serve as perfect training tools for students.
