September 24, 2026 — The team behind Recycle Coach announced today that its work now continues under a new parent company, Kanopy Technology. The move arrives as Recycle Coach marks two milestones of its own: 25 years as a company, and 10 years of the Recycle Coach app. With the shift, Kanopy will offer broader support across the waste and recycling stream by bringing together proven technologies and real industry expertise under one roof.
Waste and recycling has only continued to grow more complicated. Responsibility is increasingly fragmented, spread across cities, haulers, and agencies, and no single tool covers all of it. Kanopy is determined to work across the industry to better serve its partners, providing access to the capabilities they need without needing to source several different vendors independently.
For the communities and residents who use Recycle Coach every day, nothing changes about the app they know and rely on. The Recycle Coach product keeps its name and its place at the center of resident communication, and the team has real ambition for what’s next.
Looking back on 25 years of Recycle Coach and a decade of the app, the team is excited to evolve, building on what residents, municipalities and haulers have trusted for years, while opening the door to do more for the municipalities and partners that count on it to answer residents’ questions, cut down on contamination, and make recycling easier to get right.
Jeff J. Galad who has led Recycle Coach as President & CEO, will take on the role of CEO of Kanopy Technology, bringing continuity to the partners and communities currently using the platform.
Kanopy is thrilled to welcome Re-TRAC to the group. Since 2004, Re-TRAC has been the data collection and reporting backbone behind waste and recycling programs at 13 state agencies and dozens of local governments across North America. It gives Kanopy customers a proven system for the compliance and performance reporting these programs are increasingly required to produce. Re-TRAC will continue to be led by its CEO, Josh Reid.
Prairie Robotics, led by Sam Dietrich and Stevan Mikha, joins as a strategic partner. The company is known for its innovative AI contamination technology: truck-mounted cameras that spot incorrect items in the cart at the time of collection and connect each event to the correct household, allowing for a direct feedback loop at scale. When integrated with Recycle Coach, contamination alerts can reach residents directly via push notifications, helping communities clean up their recycling stream and lower costs. The system flags items, not people, with privacy protections built in from the start.
Each of these tools tackles an important part of the waste and recycling stream. Recycle Coach reaches residents where participation actually happens. Prairie Robotics catches contamination at the point of collection. Re-TRAC turns program activity into the data and reporting that state and local agencies are increasingly measured against. On their own, each tool is strong. Together, under one company and one set of shared industry expertise, they give customers a broader set of insights and solutions to draw on — and give Kanopy room to keep expanding what it can offer across the stream.
Recycling is only part of the job. Municipal teams are typically juggling garbage, organics, yard waste, household hazardous waste, as well as bulk pickup, and the rules seem to change every season. That’s exactly who Curb Coach is built for. Launching soon, it’s a resident communication app that serves communities no matter the stream: whatever a community collects, and however that changes, residents get a straight answer on what goes where, when it’s collected, and what to do next.

The company will make its first public appearance under the new name at SWANA’s RCon in St. Louis on September 29, 2026, where it will also give attendees a first look at Curb Coach.
