Dive Brief:
- Leo Raudys, a former environmental regulator and Best Buy exec, has created a site where companies can discard computers, monitors, televisions, cell phones and other electronics.
- The site, Riduvit.com, helps companies find pre-screened e-waste vendors who recycle used electronics. The website is free to use and the site takes a commission for every sale.
- Raudys currently works with two companies for e-waste recycling: Electronic Recyclers International, based in Fresno, California, and Regency Technologies, based in Twinsburg, Ohio.
Dive Insight:
Raudys says he is finding that companies are concerned more and more about e-waste recycling, and that it is difficult to find ways to dispose of e-waste in a way that is both cost-effective and environmentally responsible. Raudys worked as a state regulator for 18 years, acting as deputy commissioner and COO for the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. He then became the senior director of environmental sustainability at Best Buy in Richfield, Minnesota, where he was in charge of the company's retail consumer electronics recycling program.
