Dive Insight:
It is estimated that 1.2 million gallons of paint are unused by consumers across the state. With a push from PaintCare, a non-profit lobbying organization, six states including Minnesota and Oregon have already passed paint recycling legislation. PaintCare was started by the American Coatings Association, a trade group for the paint industry.
The American Coatings Association, Inc. was just issued a trademark by the USPTO. The trademark: "Buy Right. Use It Up. Recycle The Rest" was created by the organization to promote public awareness of paint management, including the collection and disposal of unused paint.
