- Officials in Ann Arbor, MI, are questioning a partnership with ReCommunity, a Charlotte, NC-based recycling company, contracted to operate the city’s Materials Recovery Facility (MRF).
- Although officials are being tight-lipped about alleged problems with the firm, the city services manager Craig Hupy said standards aren’t meeting expectations.
- ReCommunity is in its 19th year of a 26-year agreement it signed with Ann Arbor to oversee operations and maintenance of the facility.
Hupy said the city could have grounds for rebidding the contract, although officials are currently in the midst of talks with ReCommunity.
Mike Brennan, ReCommunity’s corporate legal advisor said the city and company are engaging in talks to work out the issues, which stem from a difference in opinion. He said there are short and long-term issues at play, and he remains hopeful on working with the city.
