- Progressive Waste Solutions announced a new fleet of compressed natural gas (CNG) waste and recycling trucks in St. Louis, MO.
- The addition of the new vehicles increases the number of CNG-powered trucks in Republic’s fleet to 25 in the St. Louis area.
- The company plans to bring the total to 40 CNG trucks by the end of the year, which would represent around 50% of its fleet.
In May 2013, Progressive Waste launched a corporate initiative focused on sustainability. One aspect of the campaign includes converting its fleet from diesel trucks into alternative fuel vehicles. In a little over a year, the hauler added almost 250 CNG trucks to its fleet, bringing the total number of CNG vehicles to 400, spanning 11 markets across the country.
Republic said that it acquires between 300 to 400 trucks annually, for the regular replacement of its fleet. An estimated 55% of the fleet replaced in North America will be CNG.
