- Republic Services added 17 solid waste trucks that run on compressed natural gas (CNG) to its Denver operations. The addition brings the total of Republic's CNG trucks in Colorado to 82, which is more than half of the collection trucks that Republic operates statewide.
- The new trucks will be fueled at Republic's CNG fueling station in Commerce City, CO.
- Republic now operates a fleet of more than 2,200 CNG trucks nationwide, with 38 natural gas fueling stations.
The conversion to compressed natural gas trucks is a growing trend across the waste management industry, as using CNG allows for lower operational costs. Republic Services' second quarter earnings report showed that 15% of its fleet operates on natural gas, which has saved the company money while improving productivity.
"This fleet expansion represents a significant investment in cleaner, safer and more efficient vehicles locally," said Tim Oudman, Republic area president. "It also embodies the responsibility we assume for doing our part to preserve Colorado’s considerable natural beauty for future generations."
