- As part of its Blue Planet initiative, Republic Services is planning to build a landfill gas-to-energy facility near Los Angeles.
- The firm, based in Phoenix, is creating a 20-megawatt renewable energy facility at its Sunshine Canyon Landfill. That facility is expected to power around 25,000 homes.
- A joint venture between DTE Biomass Energy and Aria Energy, Sunshine Gas Producers, worked with Republic to develop the facility.
Republic is building on a landfill it has had near LA for many years. "Sunshine Canyon Landfill has enabled growth in Los Angeles for decades, and now it will be there to help a great community achieve its sustainability goals," said Ron Krall, Republic area president.
