- Waste Management announced that its subsidiary McGinnis Industrial Maintenance Corp. (MIMC) has settled a lawsuit initiated by Harris County, TX and the state of Texas.
- MIMC settled the suit for $29.2 million. The terms of the agreement also include dismissal of any claims made against Waste Management of Texas, Inc.
- Prior to the onset of the trial, the court removed Waste Management from the suit.
The waste and recycling firm said the litigation stems from a “legacy issue” that originated in the 1960s at the San Jacinto River Waste Pits Site. The area was used as a disposal site for pulp and paper waste from a mill.
The site was then added to the Superfund List, which was created to hold polluters accountable for the costs associated with the cleanup of these hazardous waste sites, in 2008.
