Dive Brief:
- Procter & Gamble, headquartered in Cincinatti, has joined the GreenBlue Sustainable Packaging Coalition’s (SPC) How2Recycle Label program.
- The program aims to help consumers recycle the correct way with simple instructions on product packaging. The labels mark one of four categories: widely recycled, limited recycling, not yet recycled, or store drop-off.
- P&G will start out by carrying the How2Recycle label on the packaging of its Dawn dishwashing liquid, which will have the "widely recycled" label.
Dive Insight:
More than 30 companies are members of the How2Recycle Label program. Other members include McDonald's, Kellogg's, and Target.
Anne Bedarf, senior manager of the SPC, said: “Seeing the How2Recycle Label on Dawn brand products will help bring much-needed visibility to the importance of recycling plastics like these. While the public generally recognizes the recyclability of plastic bottles, recycling rates remain relatively low."
