Recycling robot helps football fans recycle
- Engineering students from UNC Charlotte in North Carolina created a robot to promote recycling at home games, RecycleBot.
- The robot is capable of discerning if a material is recyclable or not when an object is placed onto a platform, which is attached directly to the robot. Sensors then determine if the item is recyclable or compostable.
- The robot will move around the football stadium, which has been zero-waste since it opened. Students designed the robot to follow a pre-determined path using GPS coordinates entered into the system.
The robot is being used as a way to encourage fans to recycle, and to increase environmental awareness at the stadium.
