• Record-breaking amounts of materials have been recycled at the Friedman Recycling plant in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

• 2,991 tons of recyclables were processed in December, almost double what the city recycled a year earlier.

• The facility has been in operation for less than a year; it opened at the end of May.

The plant is a public-private partnership. The supervisor of the plant and the solid waste department are both hoping residents who are new to recycling will turn into year-round recyclers.
